A spring trip to Tokyo Station, Asakusa, and Skytree to enjoy the magnificent cherry blossoms

2026/2/17(Tue) SIGHTSEEING

The greatest attraction of spring in Tokyo is that you can visit several famous cherry blossom spots with almost no travel time.
This time, we've narrowed it down to the areas around Tokyo Station, Asakusa, and Skytree, which have excellent tourist flow, and will introduce four carefully selected cherry blossom spots that are photogenic, easy to walk around, and avoid crowds.

Imperial Palace and Chidorigafuchi

Ueno Park

Sumida Park

Old Nakagawa Kawazu Cherry Blossom Avenue

1. Chidorigafuchi (near the Imperial Palace, central Tokyo)

It goes without saying that this is one of Tokyo's most famous cherry blossom viewing spots. Approximately 260 cherry trees, mainly Somei Yoshino, bloom in full glory along the moat on the west side of the Imperial Palace for about 700 meters.

A particularly popular sight is the view of the cherry blossoms from a boat on the water. The cherry blossoms look completely different depending on the time of day: pale pink reflected on the blue sky and the surface of the moat during the day, and fantastical illuminated cherry blossoms at night.

② Ueno Park (easy access to Asakusa)

Ueno Park is a must-visit on your way to Asakusa. With around 800 cherry trees, it is the largest park in Tokyo.

The main street, Sakura Street, is covered in a tunnel of cherry blossoms, allowing you to feel the excitement of spring. There are also many museums and art galleries, so you can enjoy cultural experiences in combination, which is another charm of Ueno.

3. Sumida Park (the classic route to Asakusa and Skytree)

Located just a short walk from Asakusa Station, this is one of Tokyo's best spots for strolling, with approximately 600 cherry trees blooming on both sides of the Sumida River.

The biggest feature is the combination of cherry blossoms and Tokyo Skytree. The refreshing daytime scenery is wonderful, but from dusk to night, the illuminated Skytree and the silhouette of the cherry blossoms overlap, creating a spectacular view that becomes a hot topic on social media every year. The scenery of houseboats passing by also creates a traditional downtown atmosphere.

④ Mukojima Hyakkaen (A quiet and famous garden with a Japanese atmosphere)

This Japanese garden is located within walking distance of Sumida Park. Instead of flashy rows of cherry blossom trees, you can enjoy the weeping cherry trees and wild cherry trees scattered throughout the garden in a Japanese-style space.

There are teahouses and haiku monuments scattered around, making it the perfect spot for adults who want to enjoy some quiet time between sightseeing.
